Noel directs the GCG and fronts the band on trumpet and flugelhorn (oh yeah, and his favorite axe, the Rain Stick). He has been in the music and entertainment business for over forty years; playing his horn, arranging, composing, teaching, and adjudicating. Over the years he has worked in trumpet sections with bands featuring such luminaries as Bobby Shew, Alan Vizzutti, Maynard Ferguson, Shany Wallace, and Barbara McNair. He has conducted back-up bands for many stars including Phyllis Diller, George Gobel, William Christopher, Ed Ames, and Bobby Vinton.
Noel's favorite judging experience was at Montana State University where he worked a jazz festival with Louie Bellson. What a blast!
Noel has arranged/orchestrated dozens of charts for his jazz bands and among his original compositions are Opening Riff, a piece written for his college jazz band, The BSO, a signature theme for one of his earlier big bands, Mach: One, a 15 minute jazz suite in seven parts, and Evol, a one-act jazz opera.
Noel holds a BS and MA in music and is currently working on his DMA through Boston University. Having retired from teaching music in the public schools, he is now available for a college/university position. His motto: "Jazz is the only answer!"
